Mumbai, 8 Feb :England narrowly defeated Nepal by four runs in a dramatic ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 Group C encounter at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on February 8
Batting first, England posted a competitive total of 184/7 in 20 overs, with strong contributions from Jacob Bethell (55) and captain Harry Brook (53). Will Jacks added a late unbeaten 39 off 18 balls, which proved crucial in boosting England’s final score.
In response, Nepal produced a spirited chase, finishing at 180/6 in their 20 overs and coming agonizingly close to a historic upset. Dipendra Singh Airee (44), Rohit Paudel (around 39), and Lokesh Bam (39 not out) led the fightback and kept Nepal in contention until the final over.
Needing 10 runs from the last six balls, Nepal failed to find the boundary as England’s Sam Curran delivered a composed final over, conceding only a few runs to seal victory.
Will Jacks was named Player of the Match for his impactful all-round performance.
Despite the defeat, Nepal’s performance earned widespread praise as they matched one of the tournament favorites and remained competitive until the final ball, highlighting their growing strength on the international stage.
